Second Weeks – Teaching Assistant

DAY 8th – FIRST TEACHING ASSISTANT

Monday, January 14, 2019

A beautiful morning to start the activity at the beginning of the second week. This week according to the schedule given, I became an assistant teacher. After knowing the learning system, class division, and school rules in Thailand. I am ready to be the teacher’s assistant in helping my teacher coordinator/school mentor in providing lessons and teaching in the classroom.

The system that I found from yesterday’s observation was that students were required to attend the Breakfast Lab every day before the flag ceremony began, then the class distribution that I taught was M1 to M3. Next is my schedule for teaching on Monday.

08:30 – 09:30 09:30 – 10:30 BREAK

( 10 Min )

10:40 – 11:40 11:40 – 12:40 LUNCH 13:30 – 14:30 14:30-15: 30
M2/1   M1/1     M3/1 M1/2

Breakfast Lab

That is an activity for students in reading books in the school canteen before joining the flag ceremony in the field, students must attend the Breakfast Lab because this is one of the programs that is useful to improve the quality of English. The student’s reading book is an English-language storybook, and each student holds a paper sheet containing the student’s track record in reading whatever books he has read. Each student must ask for a signature to the teacher who is the guide in reading. And today I am a mentor from several children to read books and teach them to master vocabulary correctly.

Teaching Assistant

Today actually has a teaching schedule in 4 classes. But because M2 / 1 and M3 / 1 only worked on tests from my teacher coordinator/school mentor, I only became an assistant teacher in M1 / 2 and M1 / 1 classes. Previously, I had discussed the material to be delivered, and the material that would be presented was the Present Simple Tense. Then, I gave a lesson plan to my teacher coordinator/school mentor to see if there were any shortcomings or suggestions to give, and here are my Lesson Plans today:

School Satit Bangna School
Class M1/1 & M1/2
Topic Present Simple Tense
Durations 1 x 60 Minutes ( 1 Meeting )

Procedures
10 Minutes Warm Up –          Classroom management.

–          Teacher prepares the students mentally and physically to follow the learning process.

–          The teacher asks the student to stand up, and asks the students one by one to give an example of the verb and after the student mentions the verb, the student is allowed to sit

40 Minutes Main Activity – the teacher explains the present tense.

– The teacher explains the present tense sentence form.

The simple present is a verb tense with two main uses. We use the simple present tense when an action is happening right now, or when it happens regularly (or unceasingly, which is why it’s sometimes called present indefinite). Depending on the person, the simple present tense is formed by using the root form or by adding ‑s or ‑es to the end.

Example : I feel great! Pauline loves pie. I’m sorry to hear that you’re sick.

The other is to talk about habitual actions or occurrences.

Pauline practices the piano every day. Ms. Jackson travels during the summer. Hamsters run all night.

Subject Verb The Rest of the sentence
I / You / They / We go to the school by bus
She / He / It goes to the school by bus

– The teacher asks students to give a verb example and use the verb to make a simple present sentence

10 Minutes Wrap Up –          Students get the feedback of their identification results.

–          Students, with the teacher, conclude the lesson of the day.

–          Students make sentences of present simple  tense.

It’s a nice day because I think today is my favorite class in teaching, it doesn’t mean the other classes aren’t good. But today’s class I like because the students are easy to catch the material and easy to organize in the lesson, and they were enthusiastic about listening to my teaching.

Today I just continued and reviewed the material that was delivered by my previous teacher, namely Question Tags. But today I teach again about the material and give training from that lesson.

Durations 1 x 30 Minutes ( 1 Meeting )

Procedures
10 Minutes Warm Up –          Classroom management.

–          Teacher prepares the students mentally and physically to follow the learning process.

–          The teacher asks the student to stand up, and asks the students one by one to give an example of Question Tags and after the student mentions the verb, the student is allowed to sit.

20 Minutes Main Activity –          Teacher reviews about Question tags.

–          Teacher explains the question Tags.

Question tags

Question tags are the short questions that we put on the end of sentences – particularly in spoken English. There are lots of different question tags but the rules are not difficult to learn.

Positive/negative

If the main part of the sentence is positive, the question tag is negative ….

  • He’s a doctor, isn’t he?
  • You work in a bank, don’t you?

… and if the main part of the sentence is negative, the question tag is positive.

  • You haven’t met him, have you?
  • She isn’t coming, is she?

With auxiliary verbs

The question tag uses the same verb as the main part of the sentence. If this is an auxiliary verb (‘have’, ‘be’) then the question tag is made with the auxiliary verb.

  • They’ve gone away for a few days, haven’t they?
  • They weren’t here, were they?
  • He had met him before, hadn’t he?
  • This isn’t working, is it?

Without auxiliary verbs

If the main part of the sentence doesn’t have an auxiliary verb, the question tag uses an appropriate form of ‘do’.

  • I said that, didn’t I?
  • You don’t recognise me, do you?
  • She eats meat, doesn’t she?

With modal verbs

If there is a modal verb in the main part of the sentence the question tag uses the same modal verb.

  • They couldn’t hear me, could they?
  • You won’t tell anyone, will you?

With ‘I am’

Be careful with question tags with sentences that start ‘I am’. The question tag for ‘I am’ is ‘aren’t I?’

  • I’m the fastest, aren’t I?
10 Minutes Wrap Up –          Students makes a question tags .
